Chinese lattice: Square fret
Build window-grille lattice from thick bars on six frameworks, nest frames inside the openings, and download a seamless repeat, a framed panel and a printable PDF.

The repeat, tiled to fill the square.
Original constructions. Each framework is drawn from its geometry, after the way Daniel Sheets Dye sorted Chinese lattice by its underlying framework. Nothing is copied from his figures, and the names here are plain descriptions, not traditional names.

- Daniel Sheets Dye, A Grammar of Chinese Lattice, Harvard-Yenching Institute Monograph Series 5, 1937; reissued by Dover as Chinese Lattice Designs. The Chinese lattice maker sorts its designs by framework and nests frames inside openings, after Dye's method. No figure from the book is reproduced, and its group labels aren't used as names.
