Checkerboards: Honeycomb

Start with a standard board, then change the rows, columns, colors and box shape, such as 3:1 or 2:3.

Honeycomb

The whole board, at your columns and rows.

Drawing the board…

Board

Regular hexagons, each with six neighbors, colored so no two neighbors match. Columns count the hexagons across a row, and rows interlock.

Stretch

At 1:1 the shapes are regular. Any other ratio stretches them, and the size given is each shape's full width and height.

Sets the finished size, not the look.

Colors

A honeycomb uses three colors, so that no two neighbors match. With only two, the third is a mix of them.
