Every crochet stitch now writes a complete square

The crochet stitch pages used to give you a few rows to repeat. Each one now writes a whole square, such as a washcloth or an afghan square, in US terms, on the page and in the PDF.

Samples to start from

What you get

  • Materials: yarn weight, hook size, estimated yardage, notions, gauge, finished size, and an abbreviations key
  • An exact foundation chain, with how each stitch's turning chain counts
  • Row 1 and Row 2 written out with their stitch counts, then an exact number of repeats that ends on a wrong-side row
  • One round of single crochet edging, with 3 stitches in each corner and a count for every side
  • How to fasten off, weave in the ends, and block

Sizes and gauge

Choose a 6, 8, 10 or 12 inch square, or set your own width and length. The edging counts toward the finished size, and the row count is worked out from your gauge so the piece comes out square. As always, swatch first: these numbers are only right at your gauge.
