What Is Windows Security?

Windows security is built into any device running Microsoft’s operating system. It protects your files and devices from malware and hacker attacks by employing various methods. This includes basic antivirus protection as well as a fire wall and other tools that help prevent data loss. You can access and manage these settings using the Windows Security application or a small shield icon within the notification area on the taskbar.

Microsoft’s own antivirus program, Microsoft Defender Antivirus, is part of Windows. Windows Defender Security Center was the name used for the initial versions. The application is free and offers chip-to- cloud protection. It is also compatible with other security solutions and is able of detecting threats that others miss.

One of the most important features is reputation-based security. It uses an online database that analyzes websites and apps for their reputation scores. If a program or website has a poor score it will be stopped from running on your device. It was able to block malicious programs and phishing websites in our tests. However it didn’t block as many third-party competitors.

Other features include firewall & network protection, which analyzes your network as well as the applications you use to determine if they’re safe. Device security is another feature that allows advanced hardware features, such as core isolation. This feature can be used to protect your device from specific kinds of attacks. However, you will need to use an operating system that supports it with the device to use.
